Students from Mrs. Keriotis’s class and I were able to talk briefly about Typhoon Haiyan. While I showed images of the satellite imagery of the Typhoon and mentioned that many had been hurt or killed, I made an effort to stay away from images of the devastation and added some reassurance that giant hurricanes are not headed our way. Mr. Finn’s class needs to vote as well, but so far, Mrs. Keriotis’s class voted to have the funds raised by the storm book we are writing go to relief efforts of the Typhoon.
Students are encouraged to finish their stories at home and in class. The challenge is to write five sentences describing a storm on their virtual world. The description should include the descriptions of season, wind, clouds. It is a description of a storm on their virtual world, a world that does not yet have animal or buildings. It needs to be in finished form for me to copy and paste into the book template.
Their work is stored in the labs Google Docs and can be accessed at home. Email for more login information, or to share ideas, questions, or comments.
