We are in the midst of our exploration of weather. Our virtual worlds have an atmosphere and a water cycle. This week we focus on clouds.
Some ways to reinforce the lessons at home:
- Each student is writing a descriptive paragraph about a storm on their virtual world. We plan to publish an anthology of all their storms in a book to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Their work is stored in the labs Google Docs and can be accessed at home. Email me for the linkYour student can navigate you to their paragraph. You are welcome to help them develop a great storm description. The rubrics are posted on their page to help guide you. Here are some writing samples from fourth grade provided by Great Schools.
- Visit the Cloud Lab. Do the game “Cloud Typing”
- Watch the weather. Reinforce this units vocabulary (temperature, humidity, air pressure, weather fronts, air mass, evaporation, condensation, precipitation, runoff, groundwater, and aquifer)
- Trace where the water in your home comes from. If your water is supplied by a municipality, where is there source?
- Investigate our watershed.
- For fun, virtually visit some strange alien planets.
