Congratulations to Jaylee Duncan and Nolan Pugh for being the first students to earn the BATV Photography Key. This gives them the credentials to “check out” a camera from the media lab for any school event and take quality pictures for upcoming BATV episodes, yearbook or general memories and marketing.
The 3-D printed keys were designed by Lucy Tomkowski, another BATV leader.
Jaylee and Nolan have been working to develop the curriculum for this key for quite a few months. The process includes:
- Learn to sign out the camera
- Correctly identify the parts of the camera
- Assemble and focus using tripod
- Take your first picture
- Use the camera to complete the PIBBLER Exercises for your coach.
- Shoot a subject from three different angles.
- Shoot an object using different light sources to observe the variations.
- Shoot a series of photographs where you move the main subject to lie upon a different line in the rule of thirds.
- Recreate an Annie Leibovitz portrait with lighting and volunteer help.
- Download and edit your photo
- Assign a computer and download the images from the SD Card
- Edit your image in Photoshop®
- Send camera ready link to Media Lab
- Have the Media Lab print your photo and write down a short description of the all the photography techniques you learned.
- Optional: Take the free online class How to Choose Your First DSLR Camera. Research three DSLR cameras and choose one to purchase (you DO NOT need to purchase, just learn what to ask!)
Join the BATV afterschool club to earn your key! Teachers and staff at Baden Academy can call upon any child with a BATV Photography key to check out equipment for an event.
