After months of work, the K2k Kids Activity Center Fellows Project has successfully submitted their application for the Verizon Mobile App Challenge. Weeks in the lab were spent preparing the essays, the scripts and screen shots for the video, filming and editing. On behalf of Kamryn and Will, let me say thank you to everyone who helped!

Give each other a well-earned round of applause! While we wait to hear if we were selected as winners, Kamryn and Will will continue to work on developing the website and app.
FROM TWO OF THE ESSAYS SUBMITTED:
The K2k Kids Activity Center website began one day when Kamryn’s mom asked her to go play with my younger sister. She immediately thought, “Oh great, I don’t want to play baby games.” She had to ask my Mom what she could play that they would both like. She decided to form a team to start a website for older kids so when they are asked to play with their younger sibling they have a resource for fun ideas and games; both kids can even receive rewards for completing them. This problem is universal as kids get bored, fight, and use their time for things like sitting around and watching media. We would like kids to feel empowered to help others to build strong relationships with friends and family and to feel like they are a part of a special bond. We want children to engage in age appropriate learning activities where they are having fun while learning. The goal is of K2k is to get them to want to do activities with their younger sibling and for everyone to have fun!
The mobile app concept is that children would have a fun resource to go to for ideas on how they can help to support younger siblings and friends at home and in their community and would get rewards and fun games for completing the activities. Older children could download the app and search for fun activities to do with their younger siblings and friends. Parents can logon and reward points to their children for their accomplishments. There are over 20 activities to do with your younger sibling. The games on the www.kidsactivitycenter.weebly.com website are active, educational, and fun As a reward older children would be able to use their points to build and design their very own virtual stick person. They would be able to dress up the stick figure, make it move, and do silly things. Younger children would benefit by being engaged in fun and educational activities and having a role model of their older sibling or friend.
CONGRATULATIONS TEAM!!!
