Challenge: What does URL mean?

URL Address bar

Learners in grades 2-5 can earn one media lab point (six points win a lunch in the lab!) for submitting a paragraph description of what the abbreviation URL means.

Their paragraph

  • must be original,
  • include a opening sentence,
  • several clear researched facts,
  • a concluding sentence.

Learners can earn a second point if you include a metaphor in your paragraph.

Many of the Baden Academy students have been visiting the Media Lab for a refresher in how to find a URL address and connect to a site on the internet.

Parents, did you know that you can enable ‘safe search’ in your Google Chrome browser. Click here for more information. Even with safe search, Common Sense media recommends that your child access the internet in a space where you can observe and discuss anything they stumble upon that may raise questions. Safe Search is now mandatory in all Google Image searches.

Congratulations to the students who earned points in the “What is Gorilla Glass?” Challenge: Anthony S., Brett B., Hoby, and Kenniece. There is now a sheet posted in the lab to track our points.

For inspiration, I leave you with this wonderful 5 minute explanation of the internet. Amazing!
